Help us continue to develop a diverse team
The work we do takes an incredible community of people, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities, which is why it’s important to us that all colleagues are offered equal opportunities across VCA. We are passionate about supporting career development and training for diversifying skills and gaining qualifications, helping individuals reach their full potential and career aspirations. The mental and physical wellbeing of our colleagues is equally important to us, and the focus of many campaigns and events we run throughout the year for all colleagues to get involved.
As a civil servant, you will be expected to behave to standards set out by the Civil Service Code. We promote these behaviours across our work, along with our mission and values, to be at our best. We recruit candidates by merit and fair assessment, outlined in the Civil Service Commission’s recruitment principles. Information we ask for during the recruitment process, including details of your age, gender and ethnicity, does not play any part in our decision making.
We believe our colleagues should feel heard and we support their freedom to speak up. There are several ways colleagues can share their experiences and voice any concerns at VCA, including local champions and networking groups, to help us improve.

Disability Confidence Scheme
We encourage applications from anyone with the skills and attitude to do the role. It’s important all candidates are fairly treated and have the access they need to perform their role. We support the Disability Confident Scheme, making it our responsibility to make reasonable adjustments for candidates to deliver their best.
If you are applying for a role with us and require any adjustments to help you complete your application, please contact hr@vca.gov.uk as soon as you can, before the application closes. You can also report any adjustments in the “Assistance required” section in the “Additional requirements” page of your application form. Here you can tell us what changes or help you might need during the recruitment process. For instance, you may need wheelchair access at an interview, or if you’re deaf, a Language Service Professional.
